• Build and develop relationships among the U.S. Forest Service, NFF, and New Mexico field partners • Coordinate and manage forest-related restoration efforts and oversee on-the-ground project implementation • Work with logging and planting crews, contractors, and the U.S. Forest Service through pre-work meetings, inspections, and contract closeout • Research, conduct outreach, and develop wood product industry, regional mills, community woodbanks, and fuelwood businesses • Help develop and implement work under Stewardship, Participating, and Challenge Cost Share Agreements • Expand and support Wood For Life initiatives, including wood bank establishment, community meetings, thinning projects, and wood hauling coordination • Coordinate Requests for Proposals and contracts, process and select contractors, and oversee project implementation • Compile prospective contractor bidder lists and hold pre-bid site visits • Report project outcomes and deliverables to grantors • Attend Lincoln National Forest coordination meetings and events • Identify partnerships and grants and support capacity expansion for forest thinning and restoration projects • Support grant establishment and development opportunities and meet with partners and potential funders • Engage the public through community-based conservation initiatives and outreach campaigns • Maintain knowledge of forest restoration trends, issues, policies, and innovations • Serve as NFF point of contact for forest restoration, reforestation, and related development activities in New Mexico and the Southwest Region • Provide forestry and fuels reduction project oversight, including hand thinning, mastication, ground-based logging, and common stand exams • Conduct timber sale administration, including timber marking, basic timber cruising, inspections, documentation, and field-data interpretation • Conduct project layout and preparation, including field reconnaissance, boundary and resource-buffer flagging, and layout of landings, skid trails, and temporary roads • Oversee reforestation projects, including seed collection, nursery coordination, planting crews, and pre- and post-planting assessment and monitoring
• Undergraduate degree in conservation, forestry, natural resource management, or equivalent work experience • At least three years of work experience with conservation programs, project planning, and/or coordinating project implementation • Experience with project planning, coordination, accomplishment and budget tracking, and project operations management involving multiple partners, contractors, service contracts, and funding sources • Experience with land and watershed science, policy, and management, including fire science, vegetation management, wildlife conservation, and/or meadow and stream restoration • Commitment to the NFF mission and familiarity with U.S. Forest Service purpose and National Forest lands management • Understanding of New Mexico natural resource issues • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills • Strong writing skills and public speaking experience • Familiarity with leave/cut tree marking, DxD and DxP Silviculture timber designations, and interpreting Silviculture prescriptions/guidelines • Must be authorized to work in the United States • Ability to clearly communicate forest restoration treatment types, systems, prescriptions, operations, specifications, guidelines, and desired conditions • Ability to work with people with differing or conflicting opinions while maintaining neutrality • Ability and willingness to travel regularly, work outdoors, and maintain a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment • Ability to represent NFF professionally through written, oral, and interpersonal skills • Strong attention to detail and timely, organized work habits • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online, Journal Builder, basic cartography, and map design • Valid U.S. Driver’s License • Reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace
