Descrição

• Improve database performance and reliability in the existing distributed database environment • Investigate performance bottlenecks and reliability risks using instrumentation, code review, and staging tests • Optimize slow queries, indexes, and database settings • Diagnose distributed-database issues including transaction contention, retries, hot ranges, and inefficient access patterns • Establish performance baselines • Advise engineering teams on schema migrations, access patterns, and configuration changes • Participate in design reviews covering schema design, primary keys, indexing, and transaction boundaries • Contribute database expertise to incident response and root-cause analysis • Develop safer migration procedures, documentation, and guidance • Own version upgrades, backup and recovery validation, cluster settings, and capacity planning • Improve database observability for latency, retries, contention, range health, and capacity • Partner with Cockroach Labs on the managed database environment • Collaborate with infrastructure, platform, and application engineers • Mentor engineers on database troubleshooting, performance, and distributed-database concepts • Serve as the go-to database expert on the Reliability team as a senior individual contributor with no direct reports

🎯 Requisitos

• 5+ years of experience in a role where operating and optimizing production databases was your primary job • Deep, hands-on experience managing distributed databases, including performance and high-availability behavior • Hands-on experience managing relational databases supporting business-critical production systems • Track record of diagnosing database inefficiencies and delivering measurable improvements to queries, indexing, schema, or configuration • Strong SQL skills and fluency with execution plans, transaction management, and distributed SQL trade-offs • Ability to assess database-change risk and explain technical trade-offs clearly • Independent approach to investigating unfamiliar systems, prioritizing, and completing improvements • Considerate, collaborative working style • Production experience administering CockroachDB at meaningful transaction volumes • PostgreSQL administration experience • Experience operating a managed database service and working with vendor support and engineering teams • Experience with zero- or minimal-downtime schema migrations on large, high-traffic tables • Experience supporting payments, financial technology, or similarly availability-sensitive platforms • Experience with database capacity planning and cluster sizing, including multi-region topologies • Experience building operational tooling or checks in Python, Go, or similar languages • Familiarity with ORMs such as Rails ActiveRecord • Cloud experience on AWS or Azure • Database-focused cloud certifications are a plus • CockroachDB or PostgreSQL experience is not required if equivalent distributed database management depth is demonstrated • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the job location country and not require future sponsorship • Successful background and reference check required • Applicants must not reside in New York
