• The International Refugee Assistance Project (“IRAP”) is a dynamic and growing legal and policy advocacy organization that works to develop and enforce a system of legal and human rights for refugees and displaced people around the world. • We are the leading organization providing free and comprehensive legal services to people in need of a safe place to live and a safe way to get there. • IRAP operates offices in the U.S. (New York City, Washington, D.C.), Jordan (Amman), Lebanon (Beirut), and Europe (Berlin), and has over 100 full-time staff members. • The IRAP Europe team is seeking a legal intern to support its strategic litigation practice, which aims to challenge systemic barriers in family reunification processes for beneficiaries of international protection in Europe through litigation before the European Court of Human Rights and other regional bodies. • This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in refugee rights to be part of a growing, international legal aid organization.
• Current law student in an undergraduate or postgraduate law program including either European Union law, law of the European Convention on Human Rights, and/or the substantive or procedural law applicable before the UN Human Rights Committee or other UN Treaty Bodies • Strong interest in refugee and migration law; • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills; • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; • Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations; • Initiative to see projects through and ability to multitask; • Proficiency in Google Workspace; • Excellent English communication skills required; • Ability to speak Arabic, Dari, French, German, Pashto, Somali, Swedish, or Tigrinya is a plus.
• The internship will be compensated at the hourly minimum wage applicable in the country of work (Germany, if in-office, and in the country of residence, if remote).
