ACLED is an independent, impartial, international non-profit organization that collects data on violent conflict and protest in all countries and territories worldwide. It provides extensive analysis on trends of political violence and protests, offering insights and early warning signs for crisis prediction. ACLED's work includes monitoring elections, conflict dynamics, and tracking political violence. They deliver detailed regional and thematic reports, such as the US Crisis Monitor and the Ukraine Conflict Monitor. Their data is widely used by researchers, policymakers, and journalists to understand and respond to global crises.

📋 Description

• Collect, review, and manage political violence and protest data across Angola, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao Tome and Principe • Review news, international organization, NGO, and security reports for assigned countries • Record political violence incidents in an Excel template • Code events to provide holistic coverage of current political violence, from protests to battles • Ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of produced data • Submit deliverables mid-week and on weekends as needed • Complete extensive ACLED training exercises • Work as an independent consultant during the initial consultancy period from 9 November 2026 to 30 June 2027

🎯 Requirements

• University degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related field • Familiarity with Excel (essential) • Fluency in English (essential) • Fluency in Portuguese (essential) • Experience conducting desk-based research • Experience working to deadlines with limited supervision • High level of attention to detail and ability to receive and incorporate feedback • Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peace-building in the region generally, or country-specific studies is a strong advantage • Familiarity with conflict and actors in the relevant countries • Access to a computer, reliable internet connection, email, and Microsoft Office Suite • Ability to work with conflict-related media and read about violent events • Availability for a minimum of 10 to 15 hours per week • Successful completion of ACLED training exercises at the required level • Ability to complete a two-hour coding aptitude exercise if shortlisted • Open to nationals of any country
