• Draft compelling long-form content (e.g., Substack posts, articles, newsletters, memos, personal updates, reflections, and narrative pieces) that is polished and authentically reflect the principal’s voice and priorities. • Serve as long form content lead across client accounts - leading client calls, developing and explaining strategy, communicating with the client, setting content calendars and goals, proofing and editing compelling content, managing client approvals, executing email sends, analyzing results, and optimizing based on performance and feedback. • Develop, document, and maintain voice guidelines for each principal, rooted in interviews, prior statements, tone references, and strategic goals. • Manage ongoing publication calendars to ensure consistent cadence and alignment to audience building goals. • Develop and deliver professional reports, projections, and memos for clients. • Work collaboratively with other strategists, managers, and members of the paid media and content teams to develop holistic strategies to maximize results across clients. • Translate policy ideas, personal values, and lived experience into compelling narrative writing. • Lead the strategic growth of clients’ Substack channels, including list building, segmentation, cross-promotion, and subscriber engagement strategies. • Track and analyze channel performance metrics—open rate, click-through, subscriptions, topic performance, read time—and use insights to refine ongoing editorial direction. • Where relevant, support coordination with other distribution channels, including social amplification, paid promotion, and email list growth. • Collaborate directly with principals, senior advisors, and client teams to refine narratives and approve drafts. • Respond to news in real-time as needed, by drafting and producing rapid messages in response to fast-breaking news. • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
• Experience in long form: political writing, journalism, message strategy, speechwriting, communications, or content strategy roles. • Proven ability to write in multiple distinct voices, especially for public figures or senior leaders. • Experience drafting narrative or reflective long-form pieces. • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks at once and meet tight deadlines as needed. • Strong organization and project management skills; able to manage multiple principals and calendars at once. • Experience in reading and analyzing data. • Experience in communicating with clients or stakeholders. • Commitment to Authentic’s progressive values and mission. • Familiarity with Substack or similar newsletter/audience-building platforms strongly preferred.
