📋 Description

• Guide architecture and solutions for the Beacon Datastore in partnership with engineering and product leaders and Datastore stakeholders • Influence architectural standards across Platform teams • Implement features that model best practices • Coach team members and develop their skills • Uphold high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability • Draft RFCs for complex feature discovery and technical design phases • Solicit and incorporate input and build alignment on development decisions • Collaborate with product and technical leads across platform and scientific teams • Shape architectural direction and standards across Platform teams

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of backend development experience, including significant experience in data engineering, data platforms, and infrastructure for data-centric applications • Strong proficiency in SQL • Production experience with PostgreSQL • Proficiency with data streaming and event processing tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis • Strong proficiency in a modern general-purpose programming language • Ability and willingness to quickly learn SQL, TypeScript, and Julia; proficiency in the Datastore’s specific stack is not required • Experience with, or interest in, LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools in a production setting • Good judgment about appropriate guardrails for LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools • Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments • Familiarity with Kubernetes • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm • Collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplines • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in asynchronous and remote-friendly environments
