• Researching and writing about areas of domestic and international law, including environmental and human rights law, international investment law, and international trade law and policy • Assisting with policy analysis and advocacy • Attending meetings and conferences • Assisting with the production of CIEL publications, legal opinions, and legal briefs • Supporting preparation of amicus curiae before international tribunals • Working closely with CIEL staff on various projects and receiving supervision and mentorship • Honing thoughtful and creative legal research and analysis skills
• Must be enrolled in a course of study leading to a postgraduate law degree (JD, LLM) or similar professional qualification for the duration of the internship • Cannot accept recent graduates • Some experience with international environmental or human rights law (via graduate-level courses or work experience) • Willing to make a ten-week commitment of 15 hours/week • Must be physically residing in the United States for the duration of the internship • CIEL in the United States is unable to sponsor visas • Non-US citizens must be currently enrolled students in the US and undertake the internship as part of a university-sponsored student visa • CIEL cannot offer undergraduate internships • Application materials: cover letter, resume, and a writing sample (please, no legal memos). Do not send transcripts • Successful applicants generally possess excellent research and writing skills and a strong dedication to public interest law • Eligibility to receive the stipend depends on jurisdiction and educational institution rules
• A monthly stipend of $2,600 for full-time internships (prorated for part-time) • Stipend availability subject to rules applied by the intern's jurisdiction and educational institution • Remote internship option (must be physically residing in the United States) • Supervision and mentorship from a diverse staff of experts and attorneys • Real-world training and practice in international environmental law and human rights • Opportunity to attend meetings and conferences • Experience contributing to CIEL publications, legal opinions, legal briefs, and amicus curiae
