📋 Description

• Build and run the global privacy program across CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and other applicable frameworks • Manage privacy disclosures, consent, records of processing, and data subject requests • Own vendor data processing agreements, cross-border transfer and localization compliance, and breach response • Handle compliance for biometric and health data • Run privacy reviews for new features, integrations, and AI models • Own FTC and consumer protection matters, including health and wellness claims, advertising review, and subscription and auto-renewal compliance • Assess market requirements such as product registration, import, labeling, and disclosures for new launches • Track medical device and healthcare-regulatory matters, including FDA classification, corporate practice of medicine, anti-kickback, and HIPAA • Handle commercial contracts, litigation support, product counseling, and other in-house legal matters • Act as embedded counsel to product and engineering • Help build the legal function and legal operations alongside the existing in-house counsel • Report to Eight Sleep's first in-house legal counsel and serve as the second lawyer on the legal team

🎯 Requirements

• JD and active bar membership in at least one US state • 8 to 12 years of relevant experience, including meaningful time in-house • Solid working knowledge of US privacy (CCPA/CPRA), GDPR, FTC, and consumer protection • Experience across more than one area in-house • Comfortable handling unfamiliar matters and working as a genuine generalist • Self-starter who works hard, makes decisions independently, and advises the business directly • Comfortable building rather than maintaining in a fast-moving environment • Preferred: in-house experience at a consumer technology, healthtech, wearable, or DTC subscription company • Preferred: experience as a first or early regulatory or privacy hire • Preferred: biometric or health data, cross-border transfer, or data localization experience • Preferred: advertising, health-claims, or healthcare-regulatory experience, including HIPAA, corporate practice of medicine, or FDA/FTC intersection • Preferred: familiarity with AI governance and emerging AI regulation • CIPP/US or CIPP/E is a plus, not a requirement
