📋 Description

• Define, design, and coordinate technical aspects of HV/EHV substation protection and control • Oversee technical plant integration and optimization at project level, considering safety, quality, schedule, and cost • Design protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial, and BESS applications • Develop one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, and relay settings • Lead local or remote design teams developing panel and interconnect wiring, panel layouts, and elevations • Evaluate IED interoperability, control features, and communication/protocol aspects • Develop integrated solutions including SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecommunications needs • Apply IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture in substations • Coordinate with SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff on system integration • Interface with lead engineers, project engineers, designers, draftsmen, project managers, sourcing, and support organizations • Review load flow, fault, relay setting coordination, and transient studies • Train end users on integrated protection and control systems • Lead or support factory acceptance testing and site testing/commissioning • Develop outage, cut-over, and testing procedures • Define processes, perform root cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and validate process control • Support quality initiatives, including ISO9002-related activities • Develop proposals, technical specifications, design-hour and material estimates, vendor quotations, clarifications, exceptions, technical responses, and technical validations • May serve as project engineer for small to medium-sized, secondary-engineering-focused projects • Continuously update technical knowledge in support of grid-transition needs • Demonstrate leadership through humility, transparency, and focused delivery

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree from an accredited university • Minimum 7 years’ experience in engineering • Minimum 5 years’ experience in protection and controls engineering for substations or power generation • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including internationally, for meetings and on-site commissioning tests • Must comply with relevant company travel and tax policies • P.E. License or EIT with willingness to pursue and acquire P.E. certification, or P.Eng or willingness to acquire certification • Extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and practices • Good understanding of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC and FACTS systems • Fluent in English • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to communicate complex messages succinctly • Experience in technical problem solving • Mastery of secondary engineering discipline, including processes, tools, and technical aspects • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, judgment, decision-making, and passion for the functional role • Legally authorized to work in the United States • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
