• Advance light transport in the OptiX-based renderer, including sampling, multi-bounce indirect illumination, and path-tracing fidelity • Own and extend physically based materials through NVIDIA MDL integration, including microfacet BRDFs, layered and coat materials, and energy conservation • Develop spectral and radiometric pipelines from scene radiance through sensor output • Improve atmospheric and volumetric rendering, including sky models, clouds, participating media, and fog • Improve GPU camera image formation, including demosaic, tone mapping, exposure, white balance, lens effects, and sensor noise • Design and tune importance sampling, blue-noise and stratified sampling, MIS, and spatial/temporal denoising • Profile and optimize the per-frame GPU pipeline, including OptiX launches, BVH construction, material uploads, and denoising • Contribute to OpenUSD scene and material pipelines and integrate lighting, weather, and sensor parameters • Produce technical design documents, participate in code reviews, conduct reference-image regression testing, and mentor engineers • Influence the rendering platform used for perception training, closed-loop simulation, and reinforcement learning at General Motors
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent experience • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience in real-time or physically based rendering • Deep expertise in physically based rendering, BRDF/microfacet theory, Monte Carlo path tracing, importance sampling, and light transport • Ability to translate SIGGRAPH papers into correct, performant shader code • Strong modern C++17/20 skills, including performance optimization, memory management, and API/system design • Significant GPU programming experience with CUDA and/or ray-tracing APIs such as OptiX, DXR, or Vulkan RT • Understanding of GPU architecture and execution • Strong foundation in linear algebra, sampling and probability, radiometry, and color science • Experience profiling and optimizing GPU rendering workloads, such as with Nsight, on complex scenes • Track record of driving technical design across teams • Movie industry experience background • Bonus experience with production renderers, game-engine rendering cores, offline/path-tracing renderers, NVIDIA MDL, OSL, OptiX, GPU ray tracing, BVH pipelines, spectral rendering, atmospheric scattering, volumetric clouds, camera/sensor imaging, OpenUSD, ROS, synthetic data, reinforcement learning, closed-loop simulation, open-source graphics projects, or relevant publications • Must not require General Motors immigration sponsorship now or in the future
