Hauler Hero is a cloud-based SaaS platform that helps waste-hauling companies optimize operations, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. The product bundles CRM, drag-and-drop dispatching and routing, billing, reporting, a mobile driver app, and customer-facing portals, plus developing AI features (Hero Vision, Hero Chat, Hero Routing) for automated pickup documentation, self-service support, and real-time route optimization. It’s designed for office staff, dispatchers, drivers, and managers to improve route productivity, cash collection, and customer experience.

📋 Description

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend service layers • Write clean, testable, high-performance Java and/or Kotlin code using Spring Boot • Design and implement scalable production APIs • Refactor and extend services to improve reliability and maintainability • Create reusable components and patterns • Design and optimize PostgreSQL relational schemas • Write and tune performant SQL queries for large data volumes • Validate database access patterns under load • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks • Work within a cross-functional Agile or Scrum team • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions • Collaborate with Frontend and Product teams • Debug and resolve production issues • Improve engineering processes and practices • Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical discussions • Contribute to a culture of learning and constructive feedback • Share context proactively to avoid knowledge silos • Use AI-assisted tools in daily engineering workflows while reviewing, validating, and owning generated output

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems • Experience designing and operating distributed-data systems at meaningful scale • Experience in Agile or Scrum environments • Strong Git and GitHub workflow experience • Strong proficiency with Spring Boot using Java and/or Kotlin • Deep relational database experience, especially PostgreSQL • Experience building and maintaining production APIs • Experience with microservice architectures • Strong problem decomposition and debugging skills • Solid computer science fundamentals and engineering judgment • Clear written and verbal English communication skills • Ability to consistently overlap with U.S. working hours • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools daily and validating their output • Independent-contractor engagement
