📋 Description

• Render accurate and complete meaning between source and target languages in consecutive interpretation • Facilitate communication between English speakers and speakers of other languages • Interpret verbal messages accurately and completely for LanguageLine Solutions' clients and limited-English-proficiency customers • Remain impartial and unbiased while following correct protocol • Apply cultural understanding and sensitivity to differences between both languages • Manage call flow without taking over the call • Avoid interacting with limited-English speakers without client permission • Follow LanguageLine Solutions' interpreting guidelines and procedures • Use industry-specific terminology and protocols, including medical, court, insurance and government terminology • Provide customer service with appropriate tone, patience and courtesy • Maintain positive working relationships with the Contractor Liaison, Interpreter Resource Centre and other departments

🎯 Requirements

• Superior proficiency in English and Mandarin • In-depth understanding of the cultural dynamics of both languages • Large vocabulary, including synonyms, idiomatic expressions, proverbs and quotations • Accuracy and comprehension in both languages across subjects of varying complexity • Mastery of correct word order and proper grammar • Clear enunciation, pronunciation, professional tone and polite expression in both languages • Competency in terminology, procedures and/or products in medical, financial, insurance, courts and tribunals, police and/or government agency industries • Ability to interpret consecutively with a high degree of accuracy and process information quickly and concisely • Knowledge of interpretation methods and procedures • Neutrality toward clients and limited-English speakers • Ability to speak clearly without accent interference • Understanding of common procedures and practices in industries served by LanguageLine Solutions • Cognitive ability to interpret, including speed of understanding and expression • Ability to concentrate and follow conversations for extended periods • Ability to remember and accurately deliver blocks of information • Ability to grasp message meaning and anticipate dialogue direction • Confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards • Flexibility, professionalism and emotional composure in varying situations • Ability to assess skills, accept feedback, seek development opportunities and work independently • Dependability, honesty, integrity and trustworthiness • Professional demeanour, sensitivity, politeness and courtesy • Ability to follow client instructions and exceed expectations • Written translation and/or interpretation experience • Experience in localization, bilingual publishing, media organizations, schools and/or similar bilingual settings • Experience living and/or studying in a bilingual environment • One year of experience in industries served by LanguageLine Solutions (preferred) • Preferred educational qualifications include bachelor's and/or master's degree, relevant doctoral degree, NRPSI, DPSI, Metropolitan Police Test, CLI2, CLI3, or Certificate of Higher Education in a relevant field
