📋 Description

• Manage a team of 4–8 engineers building MongoDB’s distributed query processing engine • Occasionally write code but measured by team success • Deliver complete features in collaboration with Query engineering and product teams • Estimate work accurately and deliver on time with high code and design quality • Train, motivate, and recruit team members • Set high performance standards and evaluate team performance • Provide design and architectural guidance for team projects • Contribute significantly to codebases and influence broader Query engineering practices • Align projects with convenient work hours across time zones • Travel up to three weeks per year to meet remote team members and attend events

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience • Demonstrated success as a people manager or tech lead • Strong communication skills • A passion for mentoring and teaching • High emotional intelligence and a commitment to building inclusive teams • Experience in data management systems • Hand-on coding skills in C++ or another backend/systems language • Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design, and rigorous code quality • Passion for the theory and practice of database query engines • Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
