• About CompScience: At CompScience, we're not just building software—we're saving lives. •Founded in 2019 and backed by investors from SpaceX, Tesla, and Anduril. •Our engineering team is comprised of distinguished computer vision engineers, software architects, and data scientists from the self-driving car industry. •Our insurance team comprises seasoned professionals who understand the nuances of workers' compensation policies. •Our groundbreaking perception-based risk assessment program provides the most comprehensive data stream for risk analysis and monitoring. •The Regional Director of Underwriting – West will lead and expand our Workers Compensation underwriting operations across the Western U.S. •Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a growing team of production underwriters. •Oversee underwriting activities, ensuring adherence to guidelines and profitability targets. •Collaborate with the business development team to drive growth.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years in commercial underwriting, with at least 5 years in a managerial role. •Industry Expertise: Proven experience in underwriting within middle-markets, construction, restaurant, and loss-sensitive account sectors. •Agency Relations: Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with independent agencies. •Company Size: Background in working with smaller-sized companies, showcasing adaptability and hands-on leadership. •Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with CRM systems, particularly HubSpot, and comfort with technology-driven underwriting tools. •Nice-to-have: Presentation Skills: Strong executive presence with the ability to lead presentations and demos. •Educational Background: Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory. •Location Flexibility: While San Diego is preferred, candidates based elsewhere on the West Coast will be considered.
