📋 Description

• Abstract and analyse complex clinical information from patient case notes and other sources • Identify primary diagnoses, co-morbidities, procedures, investigations and treatment for each period of care • Translate clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes • Support HRG creation and payment-by-results funding processes • Apply ICD-10 and OPCS-4 rules and conventions • Update training manuals and publications when coding changes or clarifications are issued • Inform coding team leaders of national and local coding changes • Ensure coded information accurately reflects diagnoses and procedures for every patient episode • Investigate and collate information to support informed code-assignment decisions • Present findings during scheduled office meetings • Attend internal and external training sessions • Participate in regular coding audits and clinical coding validation processes • Supervise, mentor and support less experienced and trainee coders • Provide structured feedback to coders and management to improve quality and efficiency • Support other coders and staff involved in the coding process • Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical procedures, diagnoses and terminology • Keep up to date with clinical coding developments • Work across Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust sites as required

🎯 Requirements

• ACC National qualification • Demonstrated medical terminology and anatomy knowledge • Knowledge of Patient information systems • Significant coding experience in an acute Trust covering all specialities, with one year post examination • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 • Ability to resolve complicated coding queries raised by clinical or non-clinical staff and implement agreed decisions • Excellent written and verbal communication • Ability to work to deadlines in a pressurised environment • Ability to consistently code all specialities to 90%+ accuracy • Methodical and detailed approach • High level of accuracy and attention to detail • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team • Good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology • Good IT skills • Flexibility in approach
