📋 Description

• Report on Exeter City Council, Teignbridge District Council and Torbay Council • Cover political and social issues affecting local communities • Attend and cover council meetings and key decisions in a timely manner • Build contacts and investigate key local issues • Write features and break exclusive stories • Produce work that may appear on the BBC Homepage and be used by local media partners • Hold local authorities to account through a BBC-supported service • Tell important stories from diverse local communities

🎯 Requirements

• NCTJ or NQJ qualified journalist • Ideally 100wpm shorthand skills, or currently working towards them • Understanding and interest in local community issues • Previous experience reporting on local government/councils highly desirable • Ability to identify stories from local council meetings • Good knowledge of social media and using it to drive audience and engagement • Interest in local councils and government • Keen to hold politicians to account and ensure local communities are heard • Expert knowledge of the South West and solid understanding of the coverage area • Ideally access to a personal vehicle for regular travel to councils
