• Set and optimize department-level strategy with the President and Senior Research Managers • Contribute to and execute Rethink Priorities’ overall strategy • Evaluate, revise, and optimize theory-of-change models • Identify and advise on key impact opportunities and threats • Consult with staff on key projects, programs, and deliverables • Coordinate with communications and fundraising staff on strategy communications and fundraising and grant applications • Organize and help lead at least one annual department strategy retreat • Create and maintain relationships with potential and current funders and clients • Conduct warm and cold outreach to clients and fundraising leads • Pitch Global Health and Development research services via calls, emails, and relevant in-person meetings • Maintain relationships with organizations, institutions, and individuals relevant to the department • Monitor current activities and progress with staff • Stay informed on relevant department areas • Keep organizational leadership updated on relevant developments • Oversee the team’s research and coordinate projects • Lead team strategy processes and oversee tight-deadline projects • Manage other managers in the Global Health and Development department • Lead departmental hiring and staffing efforts • Report directly to the President of Rethink Priorities
• Substantial research and leadership experience • High autonomy and comfort overseeing research projects • Ability to assess methodological soundness and evidence quality • Strategic and critical thinking • Ability to document arguments, summarize takeaways, identify uncertainties, and cite supporting sources • Strong time and self-management skills • Project management and workflow management expertise • Collaboration and teamwork skills • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Outreach and networking capabilities • Ability to understand and interpret statistical analysis results • Fundraising and budgeting experience or understanding • Experience participating in grant applications and developing grant proposals • Organizational communication skills • Adaptability and ability to adjust to new information and perspectives • Performance management skills, including feedback, evaluations, and addressing performance issues • Ability to build an inclusive organizational culture • Professional-level English required • Ability to attend meetings during working hours between UTC-8 and UTC+1 • Ability to meet international travel requirements, including attending the annual organization retreat • Full-time availability preferred; openness to part-time work of at least 32 hours per week
