📋 Description

• Own major Android core-product features end to end with the design team, from decisions through release • Write code, review code, and own individual features hands-on • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback • Unblock engineers by investigating and resolving technical issues • Identify reusable team solutions and consolidate duplicated implementations • Maintain shared components so they are tested, clear, and reusable • Lead changes to team processes and ways of working • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases • Address recurring problems by changing underlying systems • Shift verification left by expanding automated checks before QA • Run planning focused on work requiring decisions • Define appropriate review levels and approval requirements • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions and surface team constraints early • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA • Support early-career engineers with meaningful work and learning time

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what cannot be covered by them • Evidence of introducing a team practice that continued after the candidate stopped pushing it, including an honest account of its cost • Comfort asking people to change how they work and managing resulting friction • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not, based on system behavior • Track record of building things the rest of the team actually used • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX beyond the specification • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification • Excellent communication skills • Links to a portfolio and LinkedIn included with application • Bonus: Building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects • Bonus: Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS
