• Telesat (NASDAQ and TSX: TSAT) is a leading global satellite operator, providing reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to broadcast, telecommunications, corporate and government customers for over 50 years. • Telesat Lightspeed, our revolutionary Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, scheduled to begin service in 2027, will revolutionize global broadband connectivity for enterprise users by delivering a combination of high capacity, security, resiliency and affordability with ultra-low latency and fiber-like speeds. • The company’s state-of-the-art fleet consists of 15 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite. • Our Lightspeed RF System Engineering team defines the performance required of all RF elements in the satellite communication system. • This job posting desires management experience, but we will equally consider candidates who are solid individual contributors with some team-lead assignments in the past, and Telesat will provide on-the-job training to become an effective manager. • As a Senior Manager of Radio System Engineering, you will lead all technical aspects of the radio system architecture of the Telesat Lightspeed systems in terms of air interface definition, concept of operations, functional descriptions, and physical implementation of the RF functions. • In particular, you will define the functional and performance requirements related to the radio system function as applicable to the satellite payload, user terminals, and landing stations.

🎯 Requirements

• B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer, or System Engineering and at least 15 years of relevant experience in RF communications systems and/or RF equipment manufacturing. • Experience taking an RF design through iterations and specification changes through low-rate equipment production. • Experience in system design, requirement management, and communication systems performance assessments. • Desired knowledge of DVB standards such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2 standard. • Knowledge of digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, modulation types such as PSK, APSK, QAM. • Have a good understanding of MATLAB or other tools for modeling and analyzing RF communication systems. • Thorough understanding of RF passive and active components. • Experience characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies, including rain fade and its effects on the communication links. • Knowledge of RF transceiver architectures and digital communication theory. • Highly collaborative team player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates. • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, demonstrating that you have communicated effectively with management, engineering teams, and partners/suppliers.
