📋 Description

• Serve as the first tech lead for the new Payments squad within Saldo, tem's Billing and Payments Service • Own the squad's delivery outcomes and engineering standards • Write specifications and design documents • Review ADRs and pull requests • Solve complex technical problems through code and workflows • Set the architecture direction for the payments service • Define the squad's operating model and balance speed, quality, and resilience • Improve payment accuracy and processing efficiency to reduce cost-to-process • Manage sequencing and dependencies across teams • Diagnose throughput issues and make squad work visible to stakeholders • Coach junior engineers and collaborate with the senior engineer on difficult problems • Flag promotion and hiring gaps to the Service Manager; jointly make people decisions

🎯 Requirements

• Track record as a tech lead owning a squad's delivery and standards • Track record writing design docs, reviewing PRs and ADRs, solving problems hands-on, and setting direction • Ability to balance hands-on work on major technical challenges with coaching junior engineers • Experience designing a team's ways of working from scratch while balancing speed, quality, and resilience • Experience owning cross-team sequencing and dependencies • Experience diagnosing throughput problems • Ability to set technical direction through ambiguity • Experience driving technical blockers to resolution • Experience with payments systems (desirable) • Experience improving cost-to-process or processing efficiency in a high-volume service (desirable) • Experience scaling a service beyond its basic first version (desirable) • Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing
