• Perform chromosome analysis, including imaging and karyotyping of cytogenetic specimens, primarily FISH and oncology chromosome analysis • Analyze chromosome count, structural abnormalities, and morphology from computer-acquired metaphase images according to SOPs • Prepare preliminary reports by arranging chromosome pairs in numerical sequence for director interpretation • Enter analysis information into computer systems for director interpretation • Check karyotypes against departmental and group procedures and protocols before director review • Ensure chromosomes are properly placed and oriented • Verify patient demographic information and that karyotypes match written diagnoses • Ensure karyotypes are appropriate for director review based on the test ordered and result • Transfer electronic images remotely to and from satellite reading laboratories • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory and computer equipment • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain required records • Attend required meetings, represent the laboratory professionally, and participate in continuing education • Comply with company policies and procedures and perform other duties as required
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology • 4 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits meeting CLIA standards may satisfy education requirements in lieu of the listed degrees • Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures • Experience in a high-volume laboratory environment • Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems • Ability to work independently and within a team environment • High attention to detail and strong communication and organizational skills • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position • Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs • Private HIPAA-compliant workspace • Agreement to include home address for CMS-required reporting • Internet speed of at least 100 Mbps • Ability to work remotely in a fast-paced, multi-site environment • Preferred: National Credentialing Agency (NCA) Cytogenetics certification (CLSp-CG) • Preferred: ASCP or AMT certification
