• Represent the Florida Commission on Human Relations in civil litigation, administrative, and other legal proceedings • Prepare legal documents, conduct legal research, and provide advice on legal issues and transactions • Determine whether statutory violations occurred in agency-investigated cases • Review investigative reports for legal sufficiency • Prepare Determinations and other legal documents for review and approval by the Chief Legal Counsel and/or Executive Director • Work with investigations managers to improve work product and revise investigative reports in accordance with legal criteria • Review case files and recommended orders from the Division of Administrative Hearings to draft proposed final orders for commissioner approval • Represent the agency in legal proceedings before the Division of Administrative Hearings, First District Court of Appeals, and other forums, with close supervision • Respond to inquiries from agency staff, complaint parties, and the general public regarding legal issues • Prepare and conduct legal training modules on whistle-blower retaliation and discrimination • Review public records requests
• Admission to The Florida Bar and membership in good standing • Two years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or administrative or judicial hearings • Knowledge of rules of evidence, investigative techniques, court procedures, and requirements • Ability to use deductive reasoning and communicate effectively • Ability to make detailed verbal presentations • Ability to collect and analyze evidence • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and make independent decisions • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments • Ability to analyze information and determine its validity • Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews and take statements • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships • Successful level two background screening, including fingerprinting, required as a condition of employment • Current resume, cover letter, and 2–5 page writing sample required • Selective Service registration or exemption documentation required for applicable male applicants • Preferred: degree in business administration, public administration, or business management • Preferred: experience in employment discrimination law and/or housing discrimination law • Preferred: experience drafting and editing complex documents • Preferred: experience managing a large caseload • Preferred: experience drafting proposed final orders
