• Oversee and support aviation operations throughout the Northeast region • Maintain aircraft qualifications and operational currency • Support frontline operations through occasional flight duty assignments as needed • Support organization, direction, and administration of regional aviation activities and personnel • Focus on safety and training and perform daily aviation duties • Coordinate with regional leadership, maintenance, and clinical teams for efficient service responses • Ensure regional operations comply with regulations, operations specifications, and the General Operations Manual • Participate in Air Methods’ management team • Research and report FRx budget/actual variances to the Director of Operations • Ensure completion of aviation management portions of Base Startup, Closure and Movement Manual • Distribute and revise Operations Manual and Operations Specifications materials and complete Publications Verification Forms • Manage aircraft integration and assure aircraft availability and trained pilots • Delegate aviation field logistical support to the Area Manager • Attend or delegate fleet status teleconferences and monitor KPI Dashboard • Coordinate pilot training with the Pilot Training team • Coordinate safety issues with the Regional Safety Director and help eliminate unsafe behaviors • Assist with aviation mishap investigations and root cause analysis • Submit required flight personnel reports to the Regional Aviation Director • Monitor aviation personnel behavior and performance for policy compliance • Ensure pilots use the 411 system • Correct audit deficiencies and compliance issues • Coordinate initial and recurrent training for medical crewmembers and communication specialists; monitor CTS compliance and conduct Air Medical Resource Management training • Ensure in-service training occurs before returning backup aircraft to service and maintain accurate training records • Conduct or coordinate ferry and MOC flights • Monitor and respond to AIDMOR submissions • Coordinate correction of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies with Regional Maintenance leadership • Complete initial GPS updates for assigned aircraft • Act as on-scene representative for accidents and incidents in the assigned area • Educate pilots on SMS and ASAP programs • Supervise Aviation department employees, including hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisal, discipline, complaint handling, and problem resolution • Maintain flexible availability 24/7 for operational requirements
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in aviation and air medical transports • Two (2) years of experience in a Part 135 operation • Part 135 and helicopter pilot experience • Knowledge of regional geography, weather challenges, HEMS relationships, and operational demands • Effective oral and written communication skills • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills • Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions consistent with essential job functions • Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence, and presentations for senior leadership • Proven leadership skills • Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships • Ability to maintain and encourage objectivity when assessing operations, maintenance, fuel quality, Communication Specialist personnel, and safety matters • Intermediate Microsoft Suite skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Subject to DOT/FAA drug and/or alcohol testing requirements
