📋 Description

• Develop software managing the physical network layer, from 1GBASE-T connectors to 400G long-reach optics • Write control software supporting forwarding engines, connectors, and gearbox interface chips • Build instrumentation and telemetry tools to monitor and troubleshoot physical link health • Work with Optics teams to define standards for new media and bring them to market • Add features, debug problems, and optimize code for scalability and performance • Own projects from definition through deployment and customer interactions • Interface with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to develop Layer1 features • Architect, design, and manage feature development • Review and contribute to functional and design specifications • Build automated tests and test infrastructure • Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring PHYs and transceivers to market • Collaborate with hardware engineers on software control interfaces for Layer1 components • Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools • Analyze, mitigate, and fix problems in customer networks with Customer Support Engineers and customers • Analyze system test problems and provide fixes • Mentor new and junior engineers

🎯 Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience • Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python • Knowledge of UNIX or Linux • Applied understanding of software engineering principles • Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills • Ability to design solutions and implement features independently • Ability to work in small teams • Knowledge of digital communication technologies such as modulation and signal encoding schemes is a plus • Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus • Experience working with low-level hardware components is a plus
