• Own Azure infrastructure end to end, including subscriptions, networking, Azure Front Door, Azure Container Apps, ingress, secrets, identity and base services • Standardise infrastructure-as-code using Terraform/OpenTofu with Git-driven, reviewable and increasingly AI-assisted changes • Build a self-service developer platform with service templates, starter repositories, CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation • Create policy-as-code, automated quality gates and security scanning guardrails for AI-first teams • Collaborate with the Lead Architect and Architecture Working Group on platform architecture and documentation • Design, build and operate observability and alerting across the platform • Set and operate platform reliability and performance targets with proactive capacity management • Lead platform incident management, serve as incident commander when needed, run blameless post-mortems and ensure remediation • Design high availability and disaster recovery with rehearsed recovery procedures • Own cloud and AI cost governance, environment hygiene and model and agent usage visibility • Own platform security posture, including identity and access, network segmentation, secrets, data protection and vulnerability management • Enforce zero-trust and private-by-default platform architecture • Embed SAST, DAST, SCA, IaC, container image and secrets scanning and policy-as-code gates into pipelines • Own vulnerability management and threat detection, patching SLAs, CVE triage, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, security event aggregation and audit evidence • Design guardrails for AI-specific security risks, including prompt injection defence, agent permission boundaries and sensitive tenant data protection • Manage and develop the existing DevOps team into a Platform Engineering function • Set the Platform team operating model and prioritisation • Shift culture from ticket-taking DevOps to Platform as a Product • Report to the CTO and work as a peer with the Head of Engineering and Lead Architect
• 5+ years running production SaaS systems, including incident ownership and response • Expert Azure experience across Azure Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL and SQL Server, Azure Front Door with WAF, CDN and managed certificates, Azure Service Bus, Cache for Redis, Key Vault, App Configuration, Blob Storage and Application Insights • Strong containerisation and Azure networking skills • Expert infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform/OpenTofu, Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows • Strong observability and alerting experience with OpenTelemetry and Application Insights • Hands-on experience with AI developer tooling such as Claude Code, Copilot, Codex or similar • Hands-on experience with multi-tenant SaaS isolation patterns • Deep cloud SaaS security experience covering identity and access, network segmentation, secrets management, pipeline security, vulnerability management and threat detection • Secure-by-design mindset and personal accountability for the platform’s security posture • Track record of managing team workload while mentoring and growing engineers • Strong communication skills and comfort working with product, engineering leadership and senior stakeholders • Policy-as-code experience (OPA, Azure Policy, Sentinel) nice to have • Experience with compliance frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 or SOC 2 nice to have • Software supply chain security experience nice to have • Background migrating from PaaS to container-based architectures nice to have • .NET application hosting and deployment experience nice to have • Experience building or transforming platform teams nice to have • Familiarity with Dapr, KEDA, event-driven container workloads and Kubernetes nice to have
