• Investigate and rigorously evaluate grant opportunities, including theories of change, team strength, and expected impact • Communicate grantmaking reasoning through grant reports, applicant feedback, and public writing • Source high-quality applications based on strategic insights, networks, and fund priorities • Collaborate with and build partnerships with relevant funders and organizations • Manage grantee relationships and provide support and guidance to increase impact • Serve as a responsive and professional point of contact for applicants • Represent the fund at EA and AI safety community events • Contribute to EA, AI safety, and longtermist communities’ thinking on funding and strategic priorities • Track metrics and flag shortcomings against commitments • Improve Transformative AI Fund grantmaking processes • Build and iterate on tooling, including LLM-assisted workflows, to reduce repetitive evaluation work • Work closely with the Head of the Transformative AI Fund, with increasing discretion and autonomy • Help build the fund’s processes, systems, and tools
• Deep knowledge of AI safety and/or AI governance • Up-to-date understanding of key research directions, major organizations, ongoing debates, and relevant people • Ability to navigate nuanced discussions about AI progress, timelines, implications, risks, and solutions • Proactive, self-directed agency and initiative • Excellent analytical skills and judgment under time pressure and incomplete information • Ability to distinguish weak proposals from unfamiliar proposals and assess high-risk, high-impact ideas • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to represent the Transformative AI Fund and CEA professionally • Ability to explain complex reasoning behind decisions and navigate sensitive conversations • Commitment to exceptional positive social impact and appreciation of effective altruism principles • Reasoning transparency and willingness to change views based on strong evidence and reasoning • Pre-existing networks in AI safety and/or AI governance ecosystems, or ability to build them quickly for a junior hire • Strong project management and organizational skills • Ability to manage an application pipeline, meet deadlines, and coordinate multiple priorities in a remote, high-autonomy environment • Relevant professional experience in grantmaking, investment, policy advising, research, or technical leadership is a bonus • Ability to work in time zones between US Pacific Time and CET is preferred • Willingness to travel approximately 4–6 times annually • Work authorization may be required for the selected working location
