📋 Description

• Lead the reinvention of how The Mary Sue covers entertainment, politics, and internet culture for a team of writers publishing at scale • Build the multimedia journalism and reporting approach, including short-form video, and own the strategy to scale it • Develop story ideation and sourcing workflows across TikTok, Reddit, and social media • Coach writers to become confident self-publishers and copyeditors • Recruit new writers as the team grows • Ensure publishing guidelines are met and coverage contributes ethically and accurately to conversations • Work directly with syndication platforms such as MSN, Newsbreak, and Yahoo • Plan and assign coverage based on written content and article performance, with social as a growing secondary focus • Maintain organic search and SEO best practices without allowing them to dominate publishing strategy • Own the data and economics behind coverage, including spending, rationale, and returns

🎯 Requirements

• Editorial leadership experience, ideally in fast-moving news, culture, or entertainment media • Experience overseeing, curating, and distributing editorial-first video is a major plus • Syndication experience with MSN, Yahoo, Newsbreak, Smart News, or similar is a strong plus • Strong, adaptable people management and recruitment skills • Experience developing writers, not just editing copy • Comfort working with data and pulling traffic and revenue numbers from multiple sources • Understanding of cost, spend, and margin, not just pageviews • Social instincts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube • Alignment with The Mary Sue’s voice and legacy • Travel or lifestyle/wellness content experience is a bonus • Newsletter experience and strategy is a plus, though not essential • Resume and cover letter required
