📋 Description

• Help establish the UK data science team’s working norms, technical culture, and onboarding experience • Lead the UK team as one distributed function with the US-based data science organization • Partner with the Director of Data Science and US team to prioritize stakeholder requests into a shared roadmap • Make tradeoff decisions about what the UK team builds and when • Review technical designs and code to identify poor technical decisions • Unblock ambiguous technical problems and make tie-breaking technical calls • Establish and enforce standards for code review, documentation, model monitoring, and experimentation rigor • Partner with Staff-level individual contributors on technical standards • Own delivery of 0-to-1 builds, ensuring reliable production operation and business outcomes • Collaborate with Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Product leadership

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science or ML Engineering • 2+ years directly managing data scientists or ML engineers • Experience joining or shaping a brand-new team, office, or region from an early stage • Experience working on or leading teams split across countries or significant time zones • Track record of developing and retaining data science talent, calibrating performance, and managing team growth • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and applied ML, including regression/classification, time-series, and causal methods • Ability to prioritize roadmaps across competing stakeholder demands and make clear tradeoff recommendations • Ability to communicate technical work to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders • Familiarity with production ML systems, cloud environments, CI/CD, and MLOps • BS, MS, or PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent experience • Preferred: direct US/UK or transatlantic collaboration experience • Preferred: experience with customer behavior and propensity modeling, applied forecasting, optimization, or marketing measurement • Healthcare, DTC/subscription, or pharma experience is a plus, not a requirement
