📋 Description

• Adjudicate identifications that automated detection cannot resolve, attaching verified vessel identities with sourced evidence and explicit confidence levels • Investigate identity manipulation and evasion, including AIS gaps, GNSS and position spoofing, duplicated or borrowed MMSI, name and flag changes, and vessel substitution • Interpret satellite and optical imagery and research vessel-photo databases, registries, ownership records, port-state and terminal records, classification and insurance sources, and open reporting • Reconstruct vessel pattern-of-life and ownership over time • Produce structured identification records with traceable provenance, clearly stated confidence, and disciplined reporting language • Feed labelled ground truth and edge cases to the data science team and help define automation priorities • Uphold sourcing and data-integrity standards, keeping records accurate, current, and trusted • Improve Kpler’s unified vessel records for analysts, compliance desks, and government users • Support machine-learning model improvement by producing reliable labelled ground truth

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years in intelligence, investigations, maritime analysis, or related OSINT research • Working knowledge of vessel types and particulars, AIS, registries, flag and ownership structures, and shipping operations • OSINT tradecraft, including source discovery and evaluation, cross-referencing independent sources, and uncertainty/provenance handling • Ability to interpret satellite and optical imagery; SAR experience ideally • Meticulous evidence-led documentation and clear written assessments • Familiarity with sanctions, trade compliance, and evasion typologies desirable • Experience contributing labelled data or ground truth to machine-learning workflows desirable • GIS and geospatial tooling experience desirable • Comfort with large datasets desirable • Additional languages relevant to major shipping and registry jurisdictions desirable • Rigorous, evidence-led approach with strong corroboration standards • Ability to make and defend judgements under ambiguity • Structured, methodical investigation prioritisation under time pressure • Strong written communication for analysts, compliance teams, and senior stakeholders • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international relations, security or intelligence studies, maritime studies, geography, data, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
