📋 Description

• Define and architect key L1/L2 signal-processing blocks for link-level and system-level simulators, virtualised Distributed Unit software, and Radio Unit hardware IP • Investigate and analyse new 3GPP features for simulator implementation and performance verification • Develop physical-layer receiver algorithms and verify their performance • Architect L1/L2 signal-processing solutions for vDU software and RU hardware IP • Support UK and Japan hardware and software development teams with reference and bit-true models for real-time software and FPGA/ASIC testing • Research emerging technologies for NEC product planning and sales activities • Apply AI/ML, particularly agentic AI, to automate and accelerate software and hardware development • Generate simulation results for NEC 3GPP standardisation contributions and Tdocs • Undertake system specification, high-level design, detailed design, implementation and testing of simulator features • Calibrate implementations against published results where available • Track 3GPP RAN1/RAN2 specifications for 5G NR/6G simulator and product implementation • Identify missing or changed 3GPP features requiring simulator updates • Communicate specification updates to the team • Develop and deploy agentic AI tools and workflows • Extend simulator kernel functionality • Provide technical support to NEC groups worldwide using the simulator • Create and maintain project documentation • Follow company lifecycle and QA procedures

🎯 Requirements

• Expert-level digital signal processing skills • Knowledge of linear algebra, probability theory and statistics • Experience developing algorithms for synchronization and tracking, channel estimation, equalization and MIMO detection, de-mapping and decoding • Strong object-oriented and C++ programming skills • Experience with link-level and/or system-level simulation • Understanding of 5G NR, 5G Advanced and 6G • Familiarity with the 3GPP standards process • Strong understanding of 3GPP RAN1/RAN2 technical specifications • Understanding of AI/ML, particularly agentic AI development • Experience with data analysis using MATLAB • Understanding and experience of the software development life cycle • Methodical and thorough programming approach • Ability to work according to Quality Assurance procedures • Excellent written and spoken English skills • Educated to PhD or higher degree level, preferably in communications, software engineering, physics or mathematics • Familiarity with O-RAN standards • Experience of L1/L2 software development on virtualised platforms and/or L1 hardware development involving RU/FPGA • Experience producing technical documentation • Experience with scripting languages such as Python • Experience using Intel SIMD functions for code optimisation • Experience with signal processing for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) • Understanding of multi-threading for code parallelism • Experience with version control and configuration management tools • Self-motivated and able to work independently • Logical, analytical and effective problem-solving skills • Ability to work to tight deadlines • Integrity and commitment to quality • Ability to build cooperative working relationships • Openness to cultural diversity
