Restate is a lightweight runtime and durable execution platform for building resilient AI agents, workflows, and backend services. It stores progress and automatically resumes code after failures, eliminating infrastructure and defensive plumbing. Developers write durable steps in familiar languages (TypeScript, Python, Go, Java/Kotlin, Rust) and deploy to servers, containers, or serverless platforms (Kubernetes, Vercel, Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda, Fargate, Google Cloud Run, etc. ). Restate offers a high-performance Rust runtime with low latency and high throughput, supports self-hosting or Restate Cloud, and is positioned as an alternative to systems like Temporal. It targets long‑running, event‑driven, and distributed applications including AI agents and orchestration.

📋 Description

• Own the frontend end-to-end, from architecture and whiteboarding through production code maintenance • Build the product UI for Restate, a lightweight runtime that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into durable processes • Display execution timelines, retries, queues, state, and failures clearly and quickly • Build interfaces for large datasets, live updates, filtering, search, charts, and timelines • Optimize rendering cost, data loading, and perceived latency • Safely handle untrusted content, authentication, and destructive controls such as stop, retry, and delete • Improve keyboard navigation, deep links, and state persistence across refreshes • Grow and maintain the shared component library • Collaborate closely with design engineers, the wider product team, and the founding team from initial sketches to shipped features • Translate complex distributed-system behavior into clear product experiences

🎯 Requirements

• Several years of experience with React and TypeScript on an application large enough to become complex • Experience profiling and fixing slow rendering, long lists, wasted re-renders, and bundle size issues • Experience building data-intensive interfaces with pagination, virtualization, filtering, search, and charts using real data • Experience with data fetching and client state, including caching, invalidation, polling and streaming, optimistic updates, and handling slow requests • Knowledge of securely rendering untrusted content • Knowledge of authentication and sessions • Awareness of dependency-tree security • Information design skills for dense interfaces • Accessibility knowledge, including semantics, focus management, keyboard navigation, and assistive technology • Ability to read API specifications, queries, and backend code • Unit and end-to-end testing experience • Daily use of AI tools and ability to assess when their output should be discarded • Strong opinions supported by shipped work • Ability to work autonomously and push back when appropriate • Nice to have: developer tools, observability, or infrastructure product experience • Nice to have: data visualization experience with timelines, traces, graphs, and time series • Nice to have: production design-system experience • Nice to have: multi-tenant SaaS experience with environments, roles, quotas, and usage • Nice to have: willingness to contribute backend pull requests • Must be based in Europe preferred, with US remote possible for exceptional candidates
