📋 Description

• Lead the technical direction and hands-on delivery for the Card Present (in-person payments) squad • Architect, build, and ship end-to-end features for the card-present offering • Design reliable, low-latency communication between physical payment terminals and AWS backend services • Integrate smart payment terminals and POS systems with Ryft’s gateway and marketplace routing logic • Handle offline modes, state synchronization, hardware webhooks, network drops, partial failures, and hardware concurrency • Ensure physical payment flows are secure and compliant in regulated environments • Contribute to event-driven C#/.NET services, infrastructure-as-code, and observability tooling • Break product requirements into actionable architecture and guide engineers through delivery • Improve the codebase and engineering practices through rigorous code reviews and conventions • Own production instrumentation, alerting, uptime, and incident response • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager, Product Managers, hardware vendors, and other squads • Mentor engineers and set the technical standard for the squad

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading technical projects, architecting complex backend systems, and guiding small engineering teams • Significant commercial experience building and running production backend services • Depth in C#/.NET ideal, or excellence in another modern typed language with ability to become fluent quickly • Hands-on experience running distributed services on AWS, including ECS/Fargate, Lambda, SNS/SQS, and DynamoDB or similar • Understanding of distributed systems, service boundaries, asynchronous messaging, eventual consistency, and resilient systems • Effective use of AI coding tools while reviewing, understanding, and owning all output • Track record of becoming productive quickly in unfamiliar domains • Nice to have: POS and terminal integration experience • Nice to have: Android development experience for smart payment terminals • Nice to have: PCI-DSS, payment scheme rules, EMV, or P2PE knowledge • Nice to have: Infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation • Right to work in the UK required by the application form
