📋 Description

• Lead and conduct ecological surveys for bats, birds, reptiles, great crested newts, dormice, badgers, and other protected species • Independently undertake bat surveys using a Natural England Level 2 or higher bat licence • Apply for mitigation licences with Natural England • Prepare and deliver Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments • Produce ecological survey reports and technical assessments • Lead fieldwork operations and maintain detailed field notes • Undertake out-of-hours surveys, ecological watching briefs, and protected species survey work • Manage complex ecological projects from inception to completion • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members • Maintain accurate and organised data records • Manage projects, deadlines, quality, and safety standards • Contribute to tender preparation, proposals, business development, and client liaison • Support soil and groundwater monitoring where required

🎯 Requirements

• Natural England Level 2 Class Licence (or equivalent) • Demonstrable experience independently leading bat survey programmes and contributing to mitigation licensing • Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) • Proven experience leading ecological surveys and assessments • Experience within ecological consultancy and comprehensive industry knowledge • Ability to manage projects independently with minimal supervision • Strong technical report writing and communication skills • Competence contributing to proposals, tenders, and business operations • Ability to manage workload effectively to meet operational performance and financial targets • Commitment to continuous professional development • Excellent planning and organisational skills • Thorough understanding of quality and financial systems • Ability to maintain and manage safety and survey-related equipment • Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of projects, work flexibly, and support and mentor junior colleagues
