• Assess early death and early incidence of critical illness for accurate underwriting mortality and morbidity • Assess complex medical and avocational histories including current financial concepts in Individual Life insurance • Assess individual risk within signing authority using underwriting principles • Review and assess AML and governance risk and client applications • Adjudicate client risk factors and review Attending Physician Statements • Review Fair Market Value of corporately owned policies and liaise with client advisory partners • Liaise with specialists, actuaries, medical providers, Reinsurance and Actuarial to determine risk • Calculate underwriting decision and mortality rating; decide on reinsurance sharing and negotiate reinsurance agreements • Update systems, document notes and prepare for audit review • Perform presentations and onsite visits with brokers and MGAs; review special underwriting requests • Keep up to date with medical knowledge and financial market trends • Risk score Universal Life clients and work with Corporate AML office • Review and assess reinsurance decisions and negotiate complex cases • Reserve and manage capacity for large cases; calculate reserve amounts • Provide insight to Director Underwriting on reinsurance trends
• Undergraduate degree • 5-10 years experience in an underwriting environment • ALU II – working towards F.A.L.U. • Business Numeracy (In-depth) • Analytical skills (In-depth) • Negotiation skills (In-depth) • Bilingualism French and English is an asset • Fluent in French and English to support business operations outside the province of Quebec
