📋 Description

• Build, operate, and improve Elastic Build, a Kubernetes-based pipeline that transforms package specifications into production-ready artifacts, focusing on reliability, performance, resource efficiency, and multi-architecture support • Maintain and evolve Melange, the package build tool, emphasizing stability, testing, patch management, observability, and operational excellence • Design automation for package rebuild and review workflows while preserving meaningful human review • Support shared library transitions through build-time and runtime dependency analysis • Develop monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and automated remediation to detect issues early and reduce operational toil • Help define the roadmap for build and update services powering Chainguard OS • Document systems, architecture, and operational practices • Contribute to distro-level package updates to keep Chainguard OS secure, current, and reliable

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in backend or distributed systems • Strong experience developing production services in Go • Experience designing and operating production systems at scale • Experience participating in on-call rotations, responding to incidents, and improving systems from operational learnings • Strong Linux systems knowledge • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native application design • Experience with Cloud Run, AWS, or Azure is relevant • Experience building developer platforms, CI/CD infrastructure, internal tooling, or related systems • Alternatively, experience operating large-scale, multi-tenant B2B SaaS platforms with understanding of scalability, reliability, and cost tradeoffs • Experience with infrastructure as code, including Terraform, and modern CI/CD pipelines • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems • Familiarity with GCP services such as BigQuery, IAM, and Cloud Logging is a plus • Comfortable working independently in a remote-first environment and communicating effectively across teams • Regular use of AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment about automation and human review • Nice-to-have: build systems, packaging tools, developer infrastructure, Linux packaging, Kubernetes operators/custom controllers, Grafana, Prometheus, dependency management, rebuild automation, software supply chain tooling, ARM64 build environments, BigQuery, Looker Studio, and cloud infrastructure cost analysis
