• Facilitate improvement in the quality, completeness, and accuracy of medical record documentation • Educate and train the Clinical Documentation Integrity team • Conduct extensive audit investigations, clinical criteria research, and data analysis • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate organizational CDI education programs • Create and deliver a formalized CDI orientation curriculum using industry-endorsed content and adult learning methodologies • Perform concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory records • Conduct quality reviews and internal compliance and performance audits • Draft and submit written queries to physicians to clarify documentation • Educate providers, coders, and CDI staff on documentation concepts, health data, quality outcomes, and compliance regulations • Partner with Revenue Integrity and Compliance teams on coding and documentation denial appeals and education • Support clinical review for new technologies and projects affecting CDI workflows and outcomes • Collaborate with Coding, Health Information Management, Patient Safety and Quality, Enterprise Compliance Services, Revenue Integrity, and other departments
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field required, or Associate's Degree with equivalent additional experience • 7–9 years of nursing experience required • At least 2 years of experience in an acute care setting required • 1–3 years of CDI, clinical coding, DRG coordination, or Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement experience required; this experience can be included in the 7–9 years above • 1–3 years of education or supervisory experience preferred • RN-Registered Nurse license through DORA required • Knowledge of clinical criteria, pathophysiology, and evidence-based practice • Clinical expertise in urgent/emergent, medical/surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, and ambulatory care • Knowledge of CMS Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, Commercial health plan billing, reimbursement, and regulations • Knowledge of value-based purchasing, bundled payments, accountable care organizations, readmission reduction programs, and public reporting of quality outcomes • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, Official Coding Guidelines, Coding Clinics, and other coding references • Knowledge of quality measures, patient safety indicators, value-based purchasing, risk adjustments, mortality scoring, hospital-acquired conditions, CMS 5 Star, and externally reported quality metrics • Knowledge of compliance practices, briefs, white papers, and publications guiding ethical and legal CDI practices • Proficiency with multi-platform computer software and applications for tracking, analyzing, calculating, and summarizing data • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite • CDI or Coding certification preferred • Strong critical-thinking, organization, time-management, and prioritization abilities • Strong communication and collaboration abilities • Ability to read and interpret professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents • Ability to define problems, collect and summarize data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
