📋 Description
• Develop a short-form, image-rich essay exploring collaboration between artists and scientists in unusual, remote, extreme, or difficult-to-know environments • Ground the contribution in shared fieldwork or sustained collaboration with scientists or scientific researchers • Explore how artistic and scientific methods alter one another through measurement, observation, documentation, imagination, and aesthetic practice • Produce an essay accompanied by photographs, artworks, field images, diagrams, maps, or other visual material emerging from the collaboration • Allow readers to encounter the inquiry process, including instruments, observations, conversations, uncertainties, mistakes, discoveries, and moments of wonder • Develop the essay and accompanying visual material for publication by the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Washington, DC
🎯 Requirements
• Must be an artist based in the United States or Canada • Work must involve meaningful collaboration with scientists or scientific researchers in the field • Proposals must be 300–500 words • Proposal must describe the environment, collaboration, and central question or idea • Submit a CV or short biography • Submit a brief description of accompanying visual material • Provide links to relevant previous work, where applicable • Work may be in photography, film, sound, visual art, performance, installation, writing, or interdisciplinary forms
