📋 Description

• Develop a strong working relationship with the physician advisor and act as a unified team supporting the applicant through the application process • Assist applicants in restructuring content and ensuring responses and essays have logical, cohesive flow • Provide suggestions and guiding questions to help applicants develop content • Edit materials for clarity, tone, and syntax • Proofread materials for grammar and word choice • Answer questions about the writing process for specific materials • Provide relevant and actionable feedback • Maintain a supportive environment for applicants • Support medical school applicants with personal statements, activities sections, secondary applications, and other application materials • Complete multiple revisions of application materials, typically two or three • Maintain consistent availability during the peak season from March through September

🎯 Requirements

• BA in the humanities or a “writing-heavy” major • MA in the humanities or a “writing-heavy” major preferred/ideal, with additional professional experience substituting for an MA • 2+ years of experience in education, including university teaching/teaching assistant work, grades 9–12 ELA teaching, ELA or writing tutoring, K–12 paraprofessional/instructional assistant work, or ELA curriculum development • 2+ years of experience in a writing-heavy role, such as editing, grant writing, journalism, or content writing • Reliable Internet connection • Access to Microsoft Word • Passion for education and helping students apply to medical school • Natural teacher/guide • Compassionate, patient, curious, and passionate about writing • Flexible/adaptable • Seeks professional development • Open and responsive to feedback • Team player • Promotes diversity and inclusion • Consistent availability from March through September
