📋 Description

• Review patients’ entire current medical records and assign CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement and research • Abstract data for the QI department and The Joint Commission • Access computer systems and electronic resources to research medical records and complete coding timely • Identify lost documents and generate appropriate queries to ensure all encounters are coded • Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and related issues for assigned accounts • Maintain and disseminate current legal, regulatory, and coding knowledge • Participate in departmental in-services and coding guideline updates • Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager and Supervisor • Demonstrate knowledge of coding multiple service areas and specialties • Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate and average-to-high productivity

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required • Must hold one of these coding certifications at hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with achievement of one listed coding credential within one year of hire • One to three years of experience as a coder required • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Encoder experience preferred • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred • Ability to use the internet and electronic resources for research • Maintain continuing education requirements per PHS policy • Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate • Meet average-to-high productivity based on PHS Productivity Standards
