• Lead complex SR&ED tax incentive claims, including Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits • Assist with review of claims as required • Maintain regular contact with assigned clients and their operations, finance, accounting, payroll, and engineering personnel and accountants • Gather relevant information to prepare project costing and complete tax return input • Cultivate client relationships and uncover SR&ED opportunities • Provide consultation and support throughout the SR&ED claim lifecycle • Meet with clients in person and virtually to establish engagement plans, evaluate eligible activities, and gather supporting documentation • Partner with the technical team to identify eligible costs and formulate strategic plans • Streamline the claims process and enhance client satisfaction • Represent assigned clients in interactions with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial bodies • Lead clients through FTCAS or Review/Audit processes • Gather and submit requested information and documents and attend CRA or provincial meetings • Advise on tax credits and deductions and optimize financial gains • Research the Income Tax Act, CRA policies, relevant case law, and changing federal and provincial programs • Lead multiple engagements and develop informed strategies based on clients’ operational landscapes • Pursue ongoing internal and external professional development
• 2-5+ years previous experience claiming SR&ED tax credits, including the Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits, and claim defense • Solid foundation in Accounting/Tax or related field, in public accounting and/or industry • Undergraduate university degree in business (accounting, tax, or corporate finance) or equivalent • Proficient using TaxPrep/iFirm and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) • Outstanding client service abilities and superior communication skills • Ability to work autonomously and in team-based environments • Detail oriented with commitment to quality and excellence • Ability to adapt within a dynamic, fast-paced workplace • Ability to juggle multiple client assignments, prioritize tasks, work autonomously, and meet deadlines • Effective verbal and written communication skills • MPAcc or equivalent and/or CPA designation preferred but not required • Proficiency in other tax preparation software such as ProFile, TaxCycle, or CanTax preferred • Experience claiming Alberta Innovation Employment Grant (IEG) and/or Quebec R&D credit preferred • Experience with or interest in learning other Canadian tax incentive programs preferred • Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset • Role is national, with preference for candidates located in Alberta, British Columbia, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, or Kitchener
