• Edit professional documentary footage into engaging short-form content • Create 30- to 90-second videos for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok • Repurpose long-form documentaries and other supplied video assets into social-media-ready content • Create vertical 9:16 videos, including reframing, cropping, and repositioning subjects • Identify compelling scenes, moments, quotes, interactions, and visual sequences • Maintain the original story, meaning, tone, authenticity, and cultural context • Produce multiple short-form assets from longer documentary projects when appropriate • Create engaging openings and pacing for short-form audiences • Work with English subtitles, captions, transcripts, time-coded text, and subtitle placement • Perform timeline management, cutting, sequencing, basic color correction, audio cleanup, transitions, rendering/exporting, and file organization • Review footage and creative direction supplied through shared locations such as Dropbox • Return edits for team review and incorporate reasonable feedback and revisions • Export and deliver completed videos according to client specifications • Collaborate with the Indigenous Geographic production team and international creative partners • Adapt to evolving priorities and fluctuating content volumes • Focus on video editing and content repurposing rather than independent research, original documentary development, or administrative functions
• Professional video editing experience • Strong short-form video editing ability • Experience creating vertical 9:16 videos • Experience repurposing long-form video into short-form content • Strong understanding of pacing and storytelling • Ability to identify compelling moments within longer footage • Strong attention to detail • Ability to follow creative direction • Ability to work independently • Good English communication skills • Ability to accept and implement feedback • Reliable remote-work setup • Availability for at least 10 hours per week • Strong proficiency in DaVinci Resolve highly preferred • Adobe Premiere Pro experience highly preferred • Documentary editing experience highly preferred • Social-media video editing experience highly preferred • YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok editing experience highly preferred • Professional RAW footage experience highly preferred • Basic color correction and audio cleanup highly preferred • Subtitle/caption editing highly preferred • AI-assisted video editing and AI transcription/translation experience highly preferred • Experience working with international teams and culturally sensitive documentary content highly preferred • Portfolio/work samples demonstrating short-form video editing, vertical 9:16 content, documentary or storytelling work, long-form-to-short-form repurposing, social-media content, and caption/subtitle work • Respect for Indigenous communities, cultures, traditions, languages, and culturally significant subject matter • Willingness to learn about cultural context • Comfortable collaborating with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and time zones
