📋 Description

• Own the team's technical outcomes and maintain standards for code quality, reliability, maintainability, security, and technical execution • Lead technical direction and design within the team's domain • Translate product and business problems into pragmatic technical solutions • Partner with Staff Engineers and architects on broader cross-team or cross-product decisions • Mentor engineers and provide actionable technical feedback • Champion AI-driven engineering and automation using tools such as Claude Code • Experiment with AI and automation, measure effectiveness, and establish repeatable workflows • Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, performance concerns, and reliability issues • Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems using debugging, observability, and system-level knowledge • Build quality into development through automated testing, code review, observability, and continuous feedback • Partner with Product, QA, and Engineering to deliver high-quality software for nonprofits

🎯 Requirements

• Strong, recent experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer • Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript across the stack • Experience with Node.js and Express on the server and React on the front end • Strong experience with modern web development • Experience with relational data modeling and SQL (PostgreSQL) • REST API design • Asynchronous programming • Automated testing • Production debugging and observability • Experience incrementally modernizing legacy systems • Experience building and operating integrations and data synchronization between systems • Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed • Experience serving as a senior technical engineer or technical lead • Ability to develop technical approaches, make tradeoffs, and drive implementation and delivery • Genuine hands-on fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar • Experience using AI in coding, debugging, research, code analysis, and problem-solving • Ability to use AI and automation to improve engineering workflows and quality • Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and willingness to experiment • Track record of mentoring engineers • Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs clearly • Collaborative technical leadership approach • Helpful but not required: Java, AngularJS, Sequelize or comparable ORM, AWS/cloud infrastructure, or CRM platforms • Nice to have but not required: LaunchDarkly, OpenFeature, Playwright, Jest, multi-tenant SaaS at scale, CRM/nonprofit/volunteer management experience • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. or select Canadian Provinces; visa sponsorship is not offered
