📋 Description

• Solicit high-quality manuscript submissions in all areas relevant to People and Nature • Drive the Journal’s strategic direction by assessing manuscripts, selecting handling Associate Editors and reviewers, and making publication decisions • Gather researcher opinions on the Journal’s strengths and weaknesses and use them to suggest procedural changes and develop initiatives • Identify and recruit new Associate Editors, including through open recruitment calls, with focus on diverse representation • Assist the editorial office in identifying papers for promotion through video, blog posts and media • Promote the Journal and the BES at conferences • Contribute to the Journal’s development and discussions with editors of other BES journals to identify cross-journal initiatives • Act as Associate Editor for a limited number of manuscripts • Work with the Journal team to publish high-quality, timely articles, enhance the Journal’s profile, expand its reach, and serve authors and readers

🎯 Requirements

• Active and relevant publication record • Knowledge and understanding of the subject area, complementary to that of the existing Editors • Experience of reviewing and other editorial work • Interdisciplinary research encompassing ecology and/or conservation research, social sciences and/or the humanities, and collaboration • Experience working across multiple disciplines • Ability to work as part of a team of Editors, think strategically and creatively, and support the Journal and wider journal team • Ability to work independently and prioritise from a range of active projects • Ability to form, communicate with, and operate in, scientific networks and engage with other relevant audiences • Ability to consider multiple information sources or viewpoints and act decisively • Commitment to the post and to the mission of the BES • Desire to explore new opportunities to develop and enhance journal publishing
