📋 Description

• Work in a cross-functional Payments team in partnership with mobile, web, and machine learning/data science teams • Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Product Designers, and Engineers to understand problems and design solutions • Produce high-quality, well-structured, understandable code used by 1M+ active daily users • Embrace agile methodologies and user-centred thinking • Participate in blameless post-mortems, architecture reviews, and engineering guild sessions • Collaborate daily with engineers to solve problems and write code • Work across backend and data tasks using Scala and Python

🎯 Requirements

• Experienced Backend Software Engineer • Software engineering experience • Strong evidence of ability to learn Depop’s Scala stack effectively • Experience writing high-quality code in TypeScript, Scala, Java, Kotlin, or another JVM language • Willingness to work across multiple paradigms and languages, including Scala and Python • Experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL • Experience with NoSQL datastores, preferably DynamoDB • Experience building scalable web applications • DevOps culture • Ability to proactively find and solve complex problems independently and seek guidance when needed • Product-oriented mindset focused on solving real business problems • Experience with iterative development using A/B testing • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills • Proficiency in unit and integration testing • Experience with relational or non-relational databases • Experience with TypeScript and Scala • Bonus: payment SDKs such as Stripe or PayPal • Bonus: marketplace or fintech experience • Bonus: Play framework • Bonus: eCommerce • Bonus: event-driven architectures, preferably Kafka • Bonus: production AWS infrastructure, ideally Terraform • Bonus: Python • Bonus: data engineering
