📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with a state agency and Department of Labor client personnel to maintain and enhance Unemployment software and modernize Disability Insurance software • Analyze architectural requirements and advise the client on design • Analyze dependencies and interdependence between mainframe applications • Design and implement remediations for mainframe applications being sunset • Analyze, design, develop, test, and deploy code on a z/OS mainframe platform • Translate user requirements into technical specifications and programming solutions • Create and use programming specifications to build assigned components • Document development processes, specifications, designs, and user guides • Unit test components and prepare them for integration • Fix defects found during pre-production and post-production • Provide work estimates for development tasks • Provide technical assistance in solving software problems • Ensure change management for production application changes, fixes, and enhancements • Assist in training and mentoring junior developers • Provide night and weekend production/QA support through a required 24×7 on-call rotation

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work/practical experience • At least 12 years of COBOL programming experience • Proficiency in COBOL programming in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment • Expertise in Job Control Language (JCL) • Extensive experience with IMS DB and DB2 • Experience with IMS DB, CA7, DB2/SQL, JCL, MQ, VSAM, CICS, TSO, and FTP • Production support experience, including break-fix support and permanent production fixes • Development lifecycle experience from development through system test, UAT, and production • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies • Extensive experience working with the CA7 scheduler • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future • Preferred: InterTest, Expediter, ServiceNow, Librarian, AWS Transform, GitHub Copilot, and public-sector experience
