📋 Description

• Guide technical decisions, navigate trade-offs, and support engineers in delivering high-quality work • Code, pair program, conduct peer reviews, and drive software and architecture design • Run 1:1s, support career progression, and ensure a strong feedback loop • Collaborate with product and design to shape scope, prioritise effectively, and align on outcomes • Lead and mentor a globally distributed engineering team • Promote best practices across architecture, CI/CD, testing, and code quality • Drive a DevOps mindset with engineers owning systems from design through deployment and beyond • Architect and deliver scalable, maintainable systems and features with measurable impact on learners • Collaborate with AI specialists to integrate adaptive, personalised learning into the platform • Partner with product, design, and data to shape the roadmap and scope work • Continuously improve delivery speed, reliability, team workflows, and technical decision-making

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years commercial experience as a Software Engineer • UK timezone overlap required; usual working timezone within ±3 hours of London • Senior engineering experience in product-led, fast-paced environments • Experience leading teams or large projects ideally • Strong software architecture skills: API-first, modular design, async communications, and scaling patterns • Daily use of LLMs and agentic AI tools • Deep backend expertise and comfort with modern frontend frameworks; React.js preferred • Fluency in Agile and Lean methodologies • Experience with Docker-based, cloud-native environments • Experience with AWS • Track record of shipping performant, elegant, user-facing products • Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset • Experience shipping production code weekly or more • Experience being responsible for systems or projects built by multiple people, including production incidents
