📋 Description

• Take technical ownership of complex business domains • Design, build, and evolve scalable, reliable backend services for Pleo’s enterprise spend management platform • Design and operate distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native services • Model complex business domains and define clear service boundaries using DDD • Build maintainable systems using Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, and similar principles • Design APIs, service integrations, and reliable asynchronous workflows using technologies such as Temporal • Design secure authentication and authorization solutions • Ensure scalability, security, observability, and resilience in production • Improve shared libraries, project structure, development tooling, and automated quality assurance practices • Drive architectural decisions and evaluate trade-offs • Mentor other engineers and provide technical leadership across teams • Leverage AI responsibly by developing guardrails, agent harnesses, and engineering-quality tooling • Work in an 80/20 hands-on technical leadership role

🎯 Requirements

• Strong engineering fundamentals; experience with a particular language is less important • Experience designing and operating distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native services • Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) • Experience with Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, or similar principles • Experience designing APIs, service integrations, and asynchronous workflows • Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, WebAuthn, and fine-grained authorization models • Experience ensuring scalability, security, observability, and resilience in production • Experience with Node.js and TypeScript, or comparable software engineering experience • Experience with Temporal, SpiceDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Redis is relevant • Ability to drive architectural decisions and evaluate trade-offs • Ability to mentor and coach engineers • Application must be submitted in English • Legal right to work in the selected location is required
