📋 Description

• Set technical direction for major areas of the Fanatics Markets platform • Lead design and delivery of complex, scalable systems and customer experiences • Contribute hands-on using React, Next.js, TypeScript, or backend services in Go • Resolve ambiguous engineering problems and turn them into proposals, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes • Own initiatives from discovery and technical specifications through implementation, instrumentation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration • Partner with product, design, platform, and infrastructure teams on customer experience, accessibility, performance, security, reliability, and delivery tradeoffs • Define architecture and integration patterns for frontend applications, backend APIs, and event-driven systems • Guide experimentation capabilities including feature flags and A/B tests • Anticipate scaling constraints, reliability risks, and technical debt • Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, testing, observability, and safe deployment practices • Mentor engineers and develop technical leaders • Establish standards for AI-assisted development and responsible validation • Measure and improve engineering effectiveness • Lead through influence in an early-stage product environment • Build the future of Fanatics Markets, a real-money prediction and trading app for sports, entertainment, political, and other events

🎯 Requirements

• Substantial experience building and operating highly scalable production systems, with demonstrated impact at Staff level or equivalent scope • Technical leadership across teams or major platform areas • Deep expertise in user-facing web applications with JavaScript/TypeScript and React, or backend services with Go, Java, or Python • Ability to reason across the full stack • Track record of setting technical direction and delivering complex initiatives from ambiguous requirements to measurable production outcomes • Strong architectural judgment and ability to assess tradeoffs and establish system boundaries • Experience with React architecture, component-driven development, and modern state management using Next.js, TanStack Query, Tailwind, or Zustand; or backend data modeling, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture using Postgres and Kafka/PubSub • Deep knowledge of a primary programming language's features, idioms, and best practices • Understanding of performance, reliability, security, responsive design, accessibility, scalability, observability, data integrity, and failure handling • Experience defining API contracts and collaborating across product, platform, and infrastructure teams • Experience shaping CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and safe deployment practices • Ability to lead through influence, build alignment, and communicate technical decisions clearly • Track record of mentoring engineers and strengthening technical decision-making • Demonstrated experience using AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Copilot to ship production code • Examples of improving development workflows with measurable impact • Team-first approach and ability to balance strategic technical work with hands-on delivery • Ability to create clarity in a high-growth environment • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills in large enterprise environments • Visa sponsorship is not available • Preferred: experience with early-stage or high-growth startups, real-money transaction systems, technical roadmaps, developer tools, AI-assisted engineering practices, open-source contributions, or a BSc in Computer Science or related field
