📋 Description

• Shape the technical direction of Research Flow and broader AI systems • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to define technical direction and delivery priorities • Lead architecture for AI-assisted study design, adaptive conversations, and research synthesis • Own ambiguous AI engineering problems through exploration, implementation, and production delivery • Build generative AI applications using LLMs, RAG, vector search, tool use, and agentic systems • Build reusable AI services and APIs • Guide machine learning service and workflow architecture using Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS • Design batch and real-time processing pipelines using technologies such as Kafka and Airflow • Establish retrieval, vector search, model orchestration, experiment, deployment, and data-handling patterns • Define evaluation strategies, benchmarks, release criteria, monitoring, security, privacy, and safeguards for AI systems • Set reusable engineering standards across testing, observability, security, incident response, and deployment • Mentor engineers and support technical leads • Prioritize AI investments based on customer needs, feasibility, and business impact • Communicate technical risks and trade-offs to technical and nontechnical partners

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience building and operating machine learning or AI systems in production, with technical leadership beyond own projects • Track record leading complex cross-team engineering initiatives from ambiguous requirements to measurable production outcomes • Strong Python and software engineering skills; ability to contribute directly to production code • Experience designing production services and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI • Practical experience building generative AI applications using LLMs, RAG, tool use, or agentic systems • Strong understanding of enterprise RAG systems, including retrieval architecture, chunking, embeddings, reranking, evaluation, and monitoring • Experience defining evaluation approaches and using evidence for model, architecture, and release decisions • Experience with PyTorch, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar technologies • Strong experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD practices • Familiarity with AWS SageMaker or AWS Bedrock • Experience with event-driven processing, vector databases, and ML lifecycle tools such as Kafka and MLflow, or comparable technologies • Experience with observability and diagnosing production issues using Datadog or OpenSearch • Sound judgement balancing delivery speed, quality, reliability, scalability, security, and cost • Ability to influence technical decisions across teams and build alignment without formal authority • Experience mentoring engineers and improving team effectiveness • UK, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, or Netherlands work location eligibility
