• Serve as a field-based Medical Science Liaison for Alcon’s Dry Eye therapeutic area and North America Medical Affairs team • Develop and maintain peer-to-peer scientific relationships with Eye Care Professionals and Key Opinion Leaders in optometry and ophthalmology • Support development and appropriate use/adoption of Alcon products and therapies through evidence-based scientific exchange • Gather external insights to inform product, therapeutic-area, clinical-practice, development, trial-design, launch, and brand strategies • Guide investigators through the Investigator Initiated Trials concept endorsement, synopsis review, grant approval, and publication process • Present current, data-based scientific and clinical information at customer sites, congresses, symposia, and training events • Respond to unsolicited scientific and medical-information requests or route them to the appropriate Alcon function • Identify and recommend KOL participation in Alcon-sponsored clinical trials • Contribute field insights to medical strategy and plan development • Implement or support medical projects as field medical lead/contact for global or regional Medical Affairs activities • Support educational efforts, including wet lab activities, onsite as necessary • Provide medical support and training to colleagues on disease states and products • Collaborate with Medical Information, Medical Safety, Compliance, Commercial, Quality Assurance, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and Market Access • Help resolve escalated product complaints, medical safety issues, and device-related issues • Comply with regulations, industry standards, company policies, and healthcare-institution credentialing requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs) • Bilingualism; advanced written and verbal communication in English and French required • 7 years of relevant experience • Reside in a Canadian metropolitan area with access to a major airport; the role requires extensive travel • Solid knowledge of eye diseases, contact lenses, dry eye, and the ocular health landscape • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the eyecare field, including at least 3 years in the ophthalmic industry or clinical practice • Experience in a customer-facing role • Working knowledge of the healthcare system, research procedures, ICH guidelines, GCP, and other ethical guidelines • Experience understanding the design and execution of clinical trials, particularly post-market studies • Experience creating and delivering scientific presentations • Basic experience in medical writing • General knowledge of biostatistics • Knowledge of product development, clinical trial design, regulatory requirements, payer landscape, and life cycle management • Proven ability and experience developing and fostering peer-to-peer, credible relationships with Medical Experts/decision makers • Experience in adverse event management • Preferred: OD, MD (Ophthalmology), DO (Ophthalmology), or equivalent medical or bioscientific degree • Reside in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, or Montréal, as the position requires extensive travel • Comply with healthcare institution credentialing requirements, including background checks, medical testing or immunization proof, facility-policy training, and confidentiality
